| Aberdeen, S.D. –
The Aberdeen Presentation Sisters invite the public to join them
for a Mass of thanksgiving for the safe return of area military
troops from the Middle East. Members of the military and their families
are also invited to join the congregation. The Mass will be held
Sunday, March 13, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Chapel,
Aberdeen, S.D.
Father Ben Benziger, who, prior to entering the seminary, served
in the United Stated Army during the Korean War, will be the presider
at this Mass. Father Ben’s experience in serving in Okinawa
in 1949 and 1950 will influence his message to local military personnel
and their families.
“What serving in a war does to a person most people don’t
understand,” Father Ben explains. “The horror is within
a person and he or she will pay the price for the rest of their
life.” Father Ben says the message during Mass will be an
expression of gratitude for what those who recently served in the
Middle East have done and what they have been willing to do. However,
the service will also be “a prayer of continued healing for
them and for us to support that healing, as well as a prayer that
we as a nation learn to work for peace in a peaceful way.”
