In 1880, at the invitation of Bishop Martin
Marty, Presentation Sisters traveled from Dublin to Dakota
Territory to teach the children of the Lakota people and the
French settlers. They accepted an invitation to start a school
in Aberdeen in 1886, and in the years that followed, staffed
many rural Catholic parish schools.
Since then, our sisters have served as teachers,
school administrators, and mentors to nearly 300,000 students
in South Dakota, Minnesota and Montana. The tradition continues
today in educational programs for youth and adults, at our
annual Leadership Camp, in parish schools, and at our Presentation
College in Aberdeen and the Lakota Campus in Eagle Butte.
