Please join us for the next Prayer Tour. We will be listening to Dr.  Poornima D’Souza, as she talks about the Taste of India. All are welcome!

India has one of the oldest civilizations in the world and the excavations trace the Indus Valley civilization back for at least 5,000 years. India is 1/3 the size of the United States and the second most populous country in the world. It is a birth place of four religions: Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism. Indian Culture and traditions has now become renowned across the world. Each state speaks its own language, has distinct cultures and traditions.  At today’s session, you will get an overview about the Indian culture and spices, the rituals and their scientific significance, various festivals, attire, celebrations, and places of attraction.  We will display artifacts for you to see, bring various spices we use in cooking, give you a sample of our food to taste.  Everyone who attends could get a henna design. Finally we will conclude the session with a Bollywood dance.

About Poornima

Dr. Poornima D’Souza is a School-Home Liaison and a Parent Educator with the Sioux Falls School District.  As a liaison, she tries to bridge the communication and cultural gap between the refugee and immigrant parents and the school system.  As a parent educator, she empowers immigrant parents with computer skills, builds their proficiency in the English language, and teaches American social skills in order to help parents learn ways to support their children’s education.   She teaches Differentiation and Diversity, graduate level course as an adjunct professor at Augustana University and teaches Instructional Strategies for Diverse Students and Settings at Northwestern College.  Her hobbies include gardening, cooking, and graphic designing.
