Ministry

Lantern Light

Lantern Light ministries is a collaborative ministry of the Conference of Presentation Sisters in New Orleans

The Conference of Presentation Sisters is network of eight congregations of Presentation Sisters located in North America. These congregations come together to collaborate and communicate on issues of ministry, spirituality, and social justice. In August 2003, on its 50th anniversary, the Conference initiated plans for the Collaborative Ministry Project. This ministry project began in September 2005 under the name Lantern Light. Presentation Sisters from various North American congregations work together among the homeless and underserved in Orleans Parish of New Orleans, Louisiana.

After Hurricane Katrina, the need for the Sisters only increased. They have partnered with other local organizations to create St. Joseph Rebuild Center. This Center is a multi-service recovery center on the grounds of St. Joseph Church. It is composed of a network of modular buildings and serves people made homeless by Hurricane Katrina, the chronically homeless and immigrant workers from Latin America who have come seeking work in rebuilding the city.
