Our Mission
...we
willingly go forth to any part of the world to work for justice,
alleviating oppression and promoting human dignity, especially
among the poor.

Our Logo
The
cross is the foundation of our logo. Taking up the cross of
Christ is a mark of the Christian disciple. Our mission is
grounded in our personal relationship with Christ, nurtured
through personal and communal prayer. The particular design
of this cross-a design distinctive among the 3000 Presentation
Sisters throughout the world—has a joyous dignity reminiscent
of resurrected life. Within the cross are figures representing
two Presentation Sisters, inclined forward, eager for mission
and grounded by the spirituality of the risen Christ. The
two figures highlight our apostolic spirituality of "being
sent," as reflected in the passage from the Gospel of Luke:
"The Lord appointed 72 and sent them out ahead of him. The
two women also represent community, the life-style of the
Presentation Sisters.
The phrase, "In Joyful
Service", characterizes the spirit of the Presentation
Sisters as they respond to the love of God and the needs of
the people of God. |

Charism
What
is Charism? Webster's Unabridged Dictionary defines
it as: \Cha"rism\, n. [Gr. ? gift.] (Eccl.) A miraculously
given power, as of healing, speaking foreign languages
without instruction, etc., attributed to some of the
early Christians. In other words, it is that miraculous
power of love, caring, and human dignity that drives
our mission.
We, the Congregation
of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin
Mary, are called by God whose life empowers us to respond
as a faith community.
Consecrated by God and inspired by the love and zeal
of Nano Nagle, we live together the evangelical counsels
and share in the Lord's mission by alleviating oppression
and promoting human dignity in God's people through
prayer and apostolic service.

Vows
As Presentation Sisters, our lives
are shaped by the vows of poverty, chastity and obedience.
These vows allow us to serve God in a unique way. Within
our vow of poverty we agree to share income and possessions
in common. Living a life of simplicity, and pooling
our resources, challenges the view that material possessions
alone bring happiness. Our detachment from preoccupation
with goods and security frees us to witness to God's
loving care for the poor.
Within our vow of chastity we express
our love for one another and the people of God. This
enables us to focus our hearts and energy on God in
the service of others. Compassionate love for each other
in community and for all people of God is our primary
witness in the Church.
Through our vow of obedience we listen
to one another and to God in personal and shared prayer,
dialog and in supportive community life. We respond
to God's Word for the common good of all. And we integrate
our personal gifts into the Congregation's mission in
the Church.
