november-compassion-treeMission has always been a focus of the Aberdeen Presentation Sisters. As employees, we too serve right alongside the Sisters continuing this legacy of Mission … our Mission.

This past summer, at the suggestion of an employee, the Sisters and their employees gathered and talked about the implementation of core values at the convent. These core values would both enhance and expand on our Mission. Each Sister and employee received the opportunity to write down their top three core values exemplified at the Convent. All suggestions were tallied with the top Presentation Convent core values being Compassion, Joy and Hospitality. Each core value will be highlighted individually, with Compassion being the first.

Employees were also invited to serve on a committee, focusing on ways to highlight not only our core values, but also bring the staff and employees closer together. Some of these committees include potluck, picnic, Christmas project, employee recognition, companion program and the core value committee.

The core value committee has begun the implementation of the first core value, Compassion. A wall decal tree was placed in a main hallway of the Convent. This tree represents the strong roots of Mission that the Sisters have set before us. The leaves on the tree represent acts of compassion. Employees and Sisters are encouraged to write deeds of compassion on the leaves which are then placed on the tree. Our tree becomes “fuller” each and every day.

One of our first Acts of Compassion as a group, was a photo of Sisters and employees. This photo was sent to two of our employees who are out on medical leave, letting them know that we are praying for their recovery.

The response has been overwhelmingly positive in implementing this new core values project. We are so blessed to work where each of these core values is seen on a daily basis from both the Sisters and the employees and are excited to see what tomorrow brings.
