Gifts in Action

Caminando Juntos - Sioux Falls, S.D.

Caminando Juntos, sponsored by the Aberdeen Presentation Sisters, is an outreach ministry with the Latino population in the Sioux Falls, SD area. Opening its doors in October 2002, Caminando Juntos responds to the gospel mandate to “welcome the stranger.”

The primary purpose of this ministry is to help create a welcoming presence and to respond to the needs of Latino immigrants as they seek to become a part of their communities and make a home among us in the United States.

Caminando Juntos offers assistance to Latinos in areas such as providing immigration legal services, learning English and presenting educational seminars regarding diversity, accessing various social services agencies, finding employment, housing transportation, medical and dental services, learning US financial and business practices, and providing Women’s Support Groups to respond to women and children in abusive relationships, parenting issues, other psychological and emotional needs.

The 3rd Annual Cinco de Mayo celebration was held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 in Sioux Falls. The goals of the fiesta celebration are to acknowledge and honor the Latino people, to increase awareness in the Sioux Falls community of the Latino culture and to encourage all to celebrate the diversity among us. The proceeds from the celebration help support Caminando Juntos. An estimated 10,000 people enjoyed ethnic food, music, piñatas and Latino vendors.
