FAITH LEADERS TO SOUTH DAKOTA DELEGATION IN WASHINGTON:

“DO NOT FORGET THE DREAMERS”

Sioux Falls, SD – March 5, 2018 marked the last day President Trump intended to honor the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.   As faith leaders, we take up the banner to again urge you, our elected South Dakota voices in Washington to protect DREAMers with a permanent legislative solution, at the very least, and promote comprehensive immigration policy that does not harm or separate families, at the very best.

March 5 has come and gone, but the DREAMers are still here! Their dreams are already becoming reality.  They are nurses and healthcare providers, managers and supervisors, corrections officers, loan officers, teachers, and students working hard in South Dakota and across our nation to further their dreams, grow their families and enhance our local communities!

March 5th has come and gone, and we have again witnessed congressional failure to provide a permanent solution for DREAMers! These DACA recipients are HUMAN BEINGS; they are not pawns on the chessboard of political maneuvers.

March 5th has come and gone, and we commit ourselves to stand with and press you to keep stoking the fires for immigration justice in the form of meaningful legislation that provides the DREAMers with recourse to build their futures and expand their dreams.

March 5th has come and gone, and there are days and weeks ahead to make something happen.  We call you to ACT NOW by taking the lead, and not let the courts decide the future of our DACA recipients!  May your faith and your principles guide you in your responsibility to lead this nation; leave politics, self-interest, special interest groups at the door!

We recall Isaiah 49:15: “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!”God
